In 1956, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China decided to gather faculty members, senior undergraduates and postgraduates from Peking University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University and Northeast People's University (the predecessor of Jilin University), together to Peking university. Since 1956 summer, under the leadership of Mr. Huang Kun, the first semiconductor specialized training was established in China jointly by those five universities, laying education foundation for the semiconductor science research and IC industry development in China. In 1970, Peking University opened the semiconductor major. In 1978, the microelectronics subject was officially established. In 2020, the discipline of integrated circuit science and engineering was established in China and our School of Integrated Circuits was founded in 2021 at Peking University.
Integrated circuits play the cornerstone role for information technology and have always been treated as the development priority. The School of Integrated Circuit stands at the research and innovation forefront of the country. For example, Peking University established the first semiconductor major in China, and developed the first silicon N-channel large-scale IC in 1976. Peking University was recognized as the National IC Talent Cultivation Base among the first batch in 2003, and the first batch National Exemplary Microelectronics College in 2015. We established the National Key Laboratory of Micro/Nano Fabrication in 1996, and the new National Integrated Circuit Industry-Education Integrated Innovation Platform was recognized in 2019. Through the hard efforts of several generations of Peking University microelectronics professionals, the School of Integrated Circuit has rapidly developed in recent years and achieved remarkable achievements.
Up to now, the School of Integrated Circuit has established a complete integrated circuit curriculum system, covering different levels from basic theory to cutting-edge technology, cross-disciplinary knowledge and practical training for both undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Integrated Circuit now has a professional teaching team with rich teaching and research experience, and possess international vision and industrial experience.
Looking forward to the future, the School of IC will keep explore the field with stronger sense of mission, higher academic standard, and superior teaching quality. We welcome all outstanding scholars and students across the world to pursue their IC dream at Peking University where has the most advanced platforms and relaxed academic atmosphere. We look forward to you, who have a passion for scientific research, joining the School of Integrated Circuits at Peking University!
