The predecessor of the School of Integrated Circuits at Peking University can be traced back to the 1950s, when the first five-university joint semiconductor specialization in China was founded under the leadership of Mr. Huang Kun, laying a talent foundation for semiconductor sciences and the development of integrated circuit industries in China. In 1970, Peking University established the major in semiconductors, established the major in microelectronics major in 1978, and established the major in the integrated circuit science and engineering in 2020. The School of Integrated Circuits was established at Peking University in 2021.
The School of Integrated Circuits is committed to the development of integrated circuits in multiple fields, and composed of five research directions : Integrated micro/nano-electronics (IME)、Integrated circuit design (ICD)、Design automation and computing system (DACS)、Integrated micro/nano-systems (IMS)、Advanced IC manufacturing technology (AIMT). We further strengthen the cooperation with well-known enterprises in integrated circuits and build the first-level discipline of "integrated circuit science and engineering" with the characteristics of Peking University.
In recent years, we have been proud of the development of our research platforms, which include National Integrated Circuit Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platform、National key laboratory of micro/nano-electronic device and integration technology (EDIT)、National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Micro/Nano Fabrication、Key Laboratory of Microelectronic Devices and Circuits Ministry of Education、Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Integrated Circuits、Beijing Laboratory of Future Integrated Circuit Technology and Science、111 Project,We focus on building world-class research and experimental environments of the micro-nano processing and integration, device/chip design and testing, and have established a world-class teaching and scientific research system with distinctive characteristics
The number of research teams in the School of Integrated Circuits has been expanding, talents in various disciplines have emerged, specifically including 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 3 Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), technological leading talent, then the number of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Chang Jiang Scholars Program is significantly increased.
In the past five years, the School of Integrated Circuits has maintained a leading position in the top international conferences, which including IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM)(more than 50 articles)、 International Solid-State Circuits Conference(ISSCC)(more than 30 articles)、International Conference on Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (IEEE MEMS)(more than 60 articles). Among them, the total number of articles published in IEDM conferences in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 (first author affiliation) ranked first in global universities.
Facing new opportunities and challenges, the School of Integrated Circuits gathers more strengths, promotes discipline constructions, accelerates the training of integrated-circuit talents that pushes the construction of "new engineering" at Peking University, eventually promoting the rapid development of China's integrated circuits.
